What is AccuReg software?
AccuReg is a Hospital Registration Audit and Reporting Tool
that helps hospitals manage the inevitable human errors
that occur at the point of patient registration. Errors are reported to each registrar in time for
corrections to be made before the claims reach coding or billing.
It also gives Managers powerful reports that track error rates
and accuracy rates by employee, location, supervisor and
type of error. It also is a powerful training
tool for supervisors. AccuReg is unique
in that it is not intrusive to registration yet it enforces
timely error correction prior to bill drop. Rather than overcomplicating an already complex
registration process,
AccuReg is simple and easy to install and use, yet powerful and comprehensive in it's editing scope.
Who developed AccuReg?
AccuReg was developed by Paul Shorrosh, a former hospital Business Office Director
who invented a way to automate the QA process at his hospital in Mobile, Alabama. In 2005 Mr. Shorrosh
redeveloped AccuReg for commercial use and after protecting it with copyright, trademarks and a patent pending,
AccuReg grew to 17 clients in 7 states in it's first year alone, all through word of mouth
referrals. You can learn
more about the story behind AccuReg in NAHAM's Access Management Journal article,
"Improving Registration Accuracy"

Where are AccuReg clients located?
We currently have AccuReg clients in 20 states (AL, AR, CA, CO, GA, IA,
IL, LA, MI, MS, NM, NC, NY, OH, OK, PA, TN, TX, VA & WA)
with more on the way. We are so confident of our product and
service that we make our FULL client list available upon request,
just give us a call.
We have a 100% client retention rate and 100% client satisfaction.
We welcome you to contact ANY of our clients, we are
confident you will get rave reviews.
Will AccuReg work with my ADT system?
Because
AccuReg is not interface-driven, it is not limited to any ADT system.
We use a simple and easy to install client-server technology
which requires no HL7 interface and, for many installations, NO NEW HARDWARE purchase. We have hospitals using a variety of ADT systems including
McKesson (Paragon, Star and Series), SMS Invision, Cerner, CPSI, Keane, and Meditech
(Magic & Client Server) and more on the way. For more information feel free to call us.
We would love to hear from you and answer your technical questions.
What makes AccuReg different?
Simplicity, Scope and Service.
AccuReg is uncomplicated, yet robust in editing and
reporting, and is backed by exceptional ongoing service,
customization
and support. We are the full-service QA vendor,
meaning that WE MAINTAIN YOUR EDITS FOR YOU as an ongoing
content management service. Today's Patient Access processes are
complicated; so we designed AccuReg around the concepts of
simplicity & effectiveness rather than cosmetics and
marketability. This design focus has resulted in
AccuReg being the least intrusive yet most enforceable
and flexible registration QA system available. It
is so unique that we have a Patent Pending on it. But more important than
any software product is the support behind it. You won’t find
another firm as singularly committed to empowering Patient
Access and taking exceptional care of our clients. We stay fully
engaged with them after implementation, continuing to
customize the product for them on an ongoing basis. We know what it takes
to get the job done in Patient Access, because we've worked
in those trenches. We also know what unresponsive and inflexible
vendor support is like, so we work hard to stay focused on
service more than sales.
Is AccuReg web-based?
No. AccuReg uses a local client-server model that is easier to implement and manage than a web-based system,
and is much more effective in today's over-complicated Patient Access work environment.
Advantages of AccuReg compared to web-based systems:
- No HL7 interface to build and maintain
- Keep HIPAA Protected Health Information LOCAL for greater control, privacy and security
- Less risk of internet misuse, viruses and remote
disaster recovery risk
- No need to grant internet access to every registrar (a management burden in itself)
- No burden on supervisors to teach all PA staff another software application
to log into, credential and use
- No training burden on registrars
Is AccuReg real-time?
No. While "real-time" is mandatory for
eligibility, address and medical necessity verification, it
is intrusive, burdensome
and unnecessary for in-depth content editing of registration
data. Most PA Supervisors and Registrars understand
the intrusion and bypass-ability that real-time tools can
bring. Batch-based systems also allow for more
comprehensive editing on data elements that are difficult to
capture with standard HL7 feeds. We also are better
able to assign errors to the appropriate employee by pulling
every user ID and using error-assignment logic which is not
available with HL7. Real-time systems based on HL7 can
also result in pushing TOO MUCH to the workstation level
during a busy registration - how many error pop-ups
are too many? Is it fair to give employees an 8-minute
registration goal and then place 100 real-time stops in
their registration system? Assuming a registrar stops registering to
respond to a pop-up, every real-time interruption
slows down registration, increases wait times and decreases customer service scores.
And
as well all know, busy registrars
often find creative ways to bypass pop-up alerts, cheat work queues
or simply dispute every other error, because speed is more important than QA when you
have a patient in front of you and 12 others waiting in line. Without adding another interface to build
and maintain, AccuReg simplifies QA with the most effective and enforceable process you can get without being
intrusive. So effective, in fact, that it has a Patent Pending (imitators beware!).
Advantages of AccuReg compared to real-time systems:
- No HL7 interface is required to be built or
maintained
- No new software for registrars to learn and manage
- No training burden or desktop support burden on
supervisors
- No dedicated FTE required to maintain the system
- Greater scope of editing not limited to standard HL7
data elements
- Greater flexibility in assigning errors to the right
employee
- Real-time pop-ups can be easily bypassed, eroding
your ROI
- Enforcement! Be confident that errors
will get corrected prior to bill-drop.
Our SecondPass reporting system identifies un-corrected, mis-corrected and
newly-made errors, by a deadline of days that you set, all prior to bill-drop
- Won't slow down registration - no steps added!
- Won't lower Patient Satisfaction scores
- Highly specific and intuitive error descriptions
that show registrars exactly what the error was AND how to correct it,
without having to contact the patient or interrupt the supervisor
- No "real-time" interruptions to patient care, yet enforces individual accountability and
timely corrections prior to bill-drop
- Supervisors don't have another system to monitor
usage or manage passwords, log-ons, and help desk.
- Error-disputes and training is personal and relational rather than electronic,
staff are much more receptive to our workflow, and
supervisors don't spend half the day in their office
dealing with electronic disputes or monitoring usage.
- No need for staff to constantly toggle back and forth between the ADT and QA system during error correction
- no new software for them to learn!
- No risk of employees checking off a secondary work
queue without correcting errors in the
actual patient account (ADT system)
- Gets supervisors away from their PC's to spend time managing PA staff and processes
- Don't trade the time you
used to spend on manual QA with time spent maintaining
your automated QA tool!
Don't you need the patient present to correct errors?
This is a common misconception. The majority of
"content errors" that AccuReg identifies are internal to a hospital's
unique billing and coding rules, for which a patient would be of little help.
For example, most patients do not understand what an
occurrence code is, or a stay type, admit code, plan code or financial
class, and over 80% of AccuReg edits fall into this category. Even if basic demographic or insurance
information is needed post-service, AccuReg error
descriptions will point Registrars
to other readily available sources. Missing information
can be obtained via scanned of ID cards, stored eligibility system read-outs,
other data elements in the same account or other accounts for the same patient,
looking up patients in payer websites, USPS.gov, accurint.com, consumer credit data, Google,
etc. AccuReg error
reports are so intuitive that the employee knows exactly what was incorrect
and in many cases how to correct it. We can
also tell the employee WHERE to go to obtain the needed
information within the error description. As a result,
AccuReg clients rarely need to contact a patient after
services are provided. Having developed this
within our own hospital Access Department, we knew that calling the patient
retrospectively is a rare occurrence and not a good
enough reason to go to the expense and burden of a real-time system that
gives you more to maintain and can be easily ignored by busy registrars, reducing
your ROI.
What is the implementation time?
Light on the IT department and not requiring an interface, AccuReg takes only 3 to 5 days onsite to
install. We provide export file specifications to your IT department prior to coming onsite so most of the
install time is spent with Patient Accounts Managers,
Billers, Patient Access Managers and Trainers to gain
an in-depth understanding of the unique billing and registration challenges of that hospital, and then
programming our system to those specific needs. AccuReg has a light user footprint, using a simple,
centralized process to manage complex, decentralized registration systems.
Do you customize the product?
Yes.
Patient Access and Business Office professionals know that in their business one size does not fit all. No
two hospitals are alike, and internal protocols and billing requirements change as often as the weather. For
this reason we are intentional about customization, not only at install but on an ongoing basis,
as part of our routine service and support. The Patient
Access and PFS environment demands that kind of flexibility, and we are happy to provide it for our clients. We are not out to mass produce a product. Our goal is
to create a quality customized product that produces real results for the clients we are privileged to serve.
We also suggest new edits to our clients that we develop at
other hospitals, so we don't wait on our clients to call us - we're
calling them with new ideas and edits.
You can be assured AccuReg will never go stale on you, and
will only improve with time.
What kind of ongoing service do you offer?
We have a SAME DAY/NEXT DAY TURNAROUND POLICY for
edit changes and requests.
Our staff are dedicated to ongoing, responsive, relational service that goes far beyond technical support. AccuReg
clients enjoy having an experienced partner to brainstorm and troubleshoot problems with. We provide on-demand edit changes and
additions, including new edits developed for other clients, all under one flat,
budgetable, monthly service fee. We believe that AccuReg is more service than
software, and we want our clients to contact us anytime and get a real person who can help them immediately,
no trouble ticket required.
What is your pricing like?
We use a tiered pricing structure based on facility size. There is a one-time installation fee and a monthly service
and support fee. The ROI is typically realized in 6 to 9 months.
Contact us for specific pricing for your
facility and we'll also send you an AccuReg ROI Estimation Calculator.
