This week patient access departments across the country celebrate National Patient Access Personnel Week. A tradition since 1982, access personnel celebrate with meals, events, recognition, and fun…and we think they deserve it! Patient access is the entry point for the patient, and sets the tone for the entire patient experience. Over the years, patient access has taken on more and more responsibility, often without additional resources. Patient access teams have become responsible for pre-registration processes, pre-service collections, denials prevention, and more. Registrars deal with more than 20 core tasks, each with numerous policies, procedures, rules, and exceptions associated with them. They are also responsible for completing these tasks in a very short amount of time, and in a manner that provides the patient with a great experience. We tip our hats to patient access personnel across the country and hope they are enjoying this special week. We appreciate what they do every day!
