“Patients are providers’ second largest payers, so collecting payment prior to or at the time of service is critical to the overall financial health of the organization,” Augusta University Medical Center’s AVP of patient access services, Sherri Creech, tells HealthLeaders.

But when Creech joined the the organization in 2021, she realized quickly they were missing opportunities to collect payments, sometimes collecting nothing at all.

In the article, Creech shares how AUMC implemented a 12-month strategy involving new technology, trainings and accountability measures, to effect system-wide change, improve the patient financial experience and increase cash collections.

By adding  AccuReg’s price estimation tool to their existing patient access platform and implementing new trainings and protocols around payment collection, the hospital reached $12 million in POS collections in just 12 months.
